The field of oncology is rapidly changing. With the progress of each day, we are getting more and more insight into tumor biology, tumor markers, newer diagnostic modalities, newer surgical procedures, advanced radiotherapy techniques, newer chemotherapeutic drugs, targeted therapies, immunotherapies, and vaccines for cancer prevention. All these developments aim at improving the outcome of patients suffering from cancers by prevention, early diagnosis, multidisciplinary treatment, rehabilitation, and improved palliation. To keep pace with this rapidly evolving field, we aim at providing a platform to clinicians, researchers and caregivers of different specialties concerned with cancer prevention and management, for publishing research findings and clinical experiences. With this philosophy, we are presenting the journal “Oncology Journal of India (OJI);” the inaugural edition. The present journal is the official publication of the “Organization for Cancer Prevention and Awareness.” It is a quarterly peer-reviewed online open access journal. OJI aims to provide a forum for prompt communication of original and innovative research findings that have relevance to understand the etiology and biology of cancer, and to improve the treatment and survival of patients.

The cancer incidence is rising very rapidly worldwide. There are lots of differences among various populations, relating to their lifestyle, demography, pattern of cancers and clinical presentation, infrastructure for diagnosis and treatment, and also treatment philosophies amongst clinicians. There is an overlapping boundary among cancer research in regards to basic, translational, epidemiological, and therapeutic aspects. The journal aims to remove these lacunae in cancer-related issues and solving the problems and to provide a forum for these four research aspects. Difficulty exists to know cancer-related issues from different geographical areas, and these issues should be put for the round discussion. The treatment strategies vary in cancer management and racial differences affect the outcomes of treatment. However, evidence-based best options should be evolved from the treatment strategies available. A journal will reflect the uniqueness and differences on these aspects and OJI is the one come forward to concern these aspects in the hope of erasing the existing lacunae.

OJI aims to publish high-quality papers on all the related areas of advanced research carried out in the field of oncology and its interdisciplinary branches. The studies on cancer prevention, diagnosis, therapy, palliative care, prognosis aspects and ethical issues surrounding cancer care at cellular and molecular levels along with technical and clinical studies related to health, ethical and social issues in the field of oncology have scope in the journal to share knowledge. This journal will facilitate the researcher to publish papers as long as they are technically correct, scientifically motivated. The journal also encourages the submission of useful reports of negative results. Articles with clinical interest and implications will be given preference.

The journal will publish original research, reviews, editorials, case series, case report, and other material on a broad range of topics focused on clinical cancer research, providing a platform for clinicians and academicians to collaborate and share knowledge.

In addition to the print version, all the published articles in OJI will immediately be available for free open access to all readers or researchers on the website to share the cancer-related emerging issues. Members of the editorial board will work aggressively to develop sharing of research activities and experiences on cancer from prevention to palliation. Online submission system will help to submit articles in the field of research activities on cancer throughout the world. The journal will be an important resource, highlighting lacunae in the planning of cancer care and resources allocation worldwide resulting a realistic goal.

The ultimate aim is to bring about evidence-based improvement in cancer prevention, early detection, and to reduce morbidity and mortality among sufferers. With all these aspects, we find a new opening with OJI to enlighten the features in the field of cancer.
